Site Design
The building footprint was laid out to avoid disturbance to
the root systems of the existing trees as much as possible. Impervious
paving is minimized, using a drive-thru design. Parking area
is configured to avoid the well-grown existing trees.
Porous paving is used in some areas for parking to further
reduce surface runoff (into the arboretum, downhill and across
the street)
Most of the site storm water is dispersed on site, not funneled
by downspouts, nor directed to the storm sewer. Some is channeled
to a pond, someday to be aerated with a solar-powered pump
The owners have planted extensive gardens, making exclusive
use of native, drought-tolerant species
